Icarus' Flight (for Johannes)

Like Icarus, he ascended --
Yearning, every grasping,
Straining for brilliance
Beyond mortal reach.
He shone --
Bathed in the glorious rays
Of the unattainable sun,
Soraring ceaselessly upwards,
Reflecting its radiance
In his incandescent soul,
Until at last, like Icarus
He fell.

But the ocean of mortality
Cannot extinguish his bright flame,
And even through my tears
I see the sunlight...

Requiescat in pace, magister.
